Prisons Where Security Convicts are Held
Gilboa Prison – located in the Beisan Valley. A relatively new prison built in 2004, intended for 800 primarily security convicts.
Shita Prison (originally Shata) – located next to Gilboa, intended for 800 primarily security convicts.
MeggidoPrison – to the southwest of Afula, northwest of Jenin, intended for 1200 primarily security convicts.
Damon Prison – located on the Carmel Mountains close to Kibbutz Beit Oren, intended for 500 convicts. Includes a wing for security convicts.
Sharon Prison – located in the Sharon Plain, in Tel Mond Bloc. Intended for 400 convicts. Includes a wing for security convicts.
Hadarim Detention Centre/ Prison – located next to Sharon Prison. Intended for 850 convicts and detainees. Includes two wings for security convicts.
Nitzan Detention Centre/ Prison – located in Ramle on the border of Lod. Intended for 750 convicts and detainees. Includes two wings for security convicts/ detainees.
Neve Tirtza Prison – located next to Nitzan Prison, the only prison for women, intended for 220 convicts/ detainees. At various periods also held security convicts.
Prison Service Medical Centre – general treatment and hospitalization facility for convicts/ detainees, located in the compound of the Ramle prisons.
Ayalon Prison – located in the compound of the Ramle prisons, intended for around 800 convicts. Includes a separation wing for security convicts.
Ohalei Kedar Prison – located north of Beersheba, intended for 450 convicts, among them security convicts.
Eshel Prison – located next to Ohalei Kedar , intended for 900 convicts. Includes three wings for security convicts.
Shikma Prison – located in Ashkelon, and intended for 650 convicts, among them security convicts.
Nafha Prison – located south of Mitzpeh Ramon. Intended for 850 convicts, among them 800 security convicts.
Ramon Prison – a relatively new prison, built in 2006, located next to Nafha Prison. Intended for 920 convicts, and includes six wings for security convicts and one wing for criminal convicts.
Ketziot Prison – located in the northwestern Negev, intended for 220 security convicts.
Ofer Prison – located south of Ramallah, reopened in 2002, and intended for 1000 security convicts/ detainees.
1391 Secret Prison – exposed in 2002, and legal hearings have been continuing since in the High Court of Justice. The State admitted the existence of the prison, but contended firstly that it was not in contravention of the law, and informed the court that the prison was not in use from 2006 on.
Prisons/ Interrogation Centres: Kishon, Jerusalem (Moscovia) and Petach Tikva.
Detention Centres – which generally are primary transit and interrogation centres: Gush Etzion, Ofarim, Binyamin, Huwarra, Salem, Kedumim and Kfar Etzion. In addition to Erez Checkpost on the Gaza border.
